Highlights From Our May 2008 Calendar

Walking Club
May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30

The Walking Club will go to Sycamore Flats the following Fridays in May:
2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. The motorcoach will depart CW at 11:00 and return around 12:15.

Flat Rock Playhouse
May 1

The motorcoach wil depart CW at 1:15 for Flat Rock Playhouse.

Porter Center
May 1

Manuel Barrueco & Quarteto Latinoamericano is this evening at the Porter Center. Call 884-8330 for ticket information and to reserve a seat. The motorcoach will depart CW at 7:00.

Book Discussion Group
May 2

The Book Discussion Group will meet to discuss Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen at 10:30 in the Activity Room. This is open to all residents.

Greenhouse Shopping
May 2

This afternoon we will travel to Henderson's Greenhouse, located in Rosman, to shop for hanging baskets, annual and perennial plants and/or vegetable plants. The motorcoach will depart CW at 1:00 and will return around 2:30.

Porter Center
May 2

Shane Parreco, percussion, will be performing his senior recital this evening at the Porter Center. Admission is FREE. The motorcoach will depart CW at 7:00.

Shopping
May 3

The motorcoach will depart CW at 10:00 for shopping at Wal-Mart and Belk.

Hymns and Classics Performance
May 4

This afternoon Hymns and Classics will be at First United Methodist Church. Admission is FREE. The motorcoach will depart CW at 2:30.

Sunday Evening at College Walk
May 4

Sunday Evening at College Walk will feature Drew Brennan, from Brevard College, who will tell us about researching the influence of outdoor or adventure education on the lives of senior citizens. 7:00 in the Auditorium.

Carte Boutique at College Walk
May 5

Why go out to shop when shopping can come to you? Carte Boutique, mobile clothing line, will be here from 10:00 - 2:00 in the Activity Room. Be sure to stop in!

Hubble Group
May 6

The Hubble Group will meet at 9:30 in the Activity Room.

Tuesday Trips
May 6

Today we will travel to Asheville to visit the NC Arboretum. Arthur Joura, Bonsai Curator, will be giving us a private tour of the Bonsai Garden. Afterwards we will eat lunch in their café which serves soup, sandwiches and salads. After lunch you will have time to tour the gardens on your own. The motorcoach will depart CW at 9:50 and will return around 1:45.

Duport Forest Tour de Falls
May 7

Today we will have our own special tour guide give us the Dupont Forest Tour de Falls. The cost is $10.00 per person. We will stop mid-way for lunch so be sure to bring a bag lunch. College Walk will provide the drinks. The motorcoach will depart CW at 10:40 and return around 2:00.

AAUW Book Club
May 7

The AAUW Book Club will meet at 2:00 in the Activity Room.

Line Dancing
May 7

Join Nancy Glover for Line Dancing at 6:00 in the Auditorium. The cost is $5.00.

Computer Lab
April 10

Bob Harrell will be teaching basic computer skills at 2:00 in the Computer Lab. Please note that each class will only hold 3 people. You must sign up at the Front Desk.

Root Beer Floats
May 8

How about a refreshing Root Beer Float? We will be serving these delicious treats at 2:00 in The Inn Café Area. Please note that the sugar-free version will be served as well. Be sure to sign up at the Front Desk by 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7.

Mountain Music
May 8

Mountain Music is this evening at Silvermont. The motorcoach will depart CW at 7:15 and return around 8:30.

Computer Skills
May 9

Oklahoma! Performance
May 9

This evening we are going to Brevard High School for the musical performance of Oklahoma! Tickets are $11.00. The motorcoach will depart CW at 7:00.

Ladies Luncheon
May 10

Today we will be having a Ladies Luncheon to honor all our College Walk mothers. This luncheon is for all the ladies of College Walk whether you are a mother or not. Due to space limitations, we will only be able to accomodate one guest per resident. The Main Dining Room doors will open at 12:00. Be sure to sign up at the Front Desk.

Asheville Tourists Ball Game
May 10

Play Ball!!! This evening we will travel to Asheville to watch the Tourists battle the Charleston RiverDogs. Tickets are $3.50 which you pay at the Front Desk. The motorcoach will depart CW at 6:00.

Porter Center
May 11

The Hendesonville Swing Band will be performing this afternoon at the Porter Center. Tickets are $15.00. You can purchase them at Rockin Robin or call 884-4932 for more information. The motorcoach will depart CW at 2:30.

Pet Visit in The Inn
May 12

Watch Table Talk for more information regarding the Pet Visit at 11:00 in The Inn by the fireplace.

Tuesday Trips
May 13

Today we will stay in Brevard to visit the Free Reign centers. First we will get an orientation and demonstration of how they train the horses at one location and then we will travel to the second location to watch an actual session in progress. The motorcoach will depart CW at 2:15 and will return around 4:15.

TCArts
May 13

We will stay in Brevard for the TCarts exhibit entitled "CO-2 - A Collaboration of Cooperatives". Admission is FREE. The motorcoach will depart CW at 11:00 and return around 12:00.

Main Meal
May 14

The Main Meal will be served from 11:30 - 2:00 in the Main Dining Room.

VIP Meeting
May 14

The VIP Meeting will be at 2:00 in the Activity Room.

"Senior Prom" Night
AMay 14

This evening we will be having our "Senior Prom" featuring the Russ Wilson Nouveau-Passe Orchestra. Hors d'oeuvres as well as wine and sparkling grape juice will be served. So come dance the night away beginning at 6:30 in the Auditorium. Feel free to dress up! Please note that Lindsey Edenfield, Diana Brettschneider's daughter, is planning and hosting this event as part of her Senior Project, Valerie will be in the background if she needs her.

A Night at the Opera
May 15

Be sure to join Irving Hyman and Kay Kadden for "A Night at the Opera" at 7:15 in the Auditorium.

Performance of "Ivy Rowe"
May 15

Actress Barbara Bates Smith will be performing Ivy Rowe - based on Lee Smoth's book Fair and Tender Ladies this evening at Transylvania County Library. The motorcoach will depart CW at 6:30.

College Walk Forum
May 16

The College Walk Forum will meet this afternoon at 1:30 in the Auditorium.

Shopping
May 16

This afternooon is your chance to visit our new Walgreen's and the Dollar Tree to do some shopping. The motorcoach will depart CW at 1:00 and return around 2:15.

The motorcoach will depart CW at 10:00 for shopping at Wal-Mart and Belk.

Conversation Hour
May 17

There will be a conversation hour in the first floor west and east wing elevator lobbies. Socialize with your friends and neighbors at 2:00.

Brevard Philharmonic will be performing this afternoon at the Porter Center. Tickets are $15.00. Call 862-3346 for ticket information. The motorcoach will depart CW at 2:30.

Residents' Association Meeting
May 19

The Residents' Association Meeting is today at 10:30 in the Auditorium. Get informed about what is going on at College Walk.

Hearing Aid Check
May 19

Judi Welch will be here for a Hearing Aid Check Clinic at 11:00 in the Activity Room.

Hubble Group
May 20

The Hubble Group will meet at 9:30 in the Activity Room.

College Walk Birthday Party
May 20

Come celebrate all the College Walk birthdays for the month of May with a slice of cake and cup of ginger ale. 2:00 in The Inn Café Area.

Tuesday Trips
May 20

This evening we will travel to the Arden area for dinner at The Boathouse restaurant. A sample menu is in the Registration Book. The motorcoach will depart CW at 4:30 and will return following dinner.

Fox Carolina News Station Tour
May 21

Today we will travel to Greenville, SC for a tour of Fox Carolina (21) News Station. Please note this trip must be limited to ten residents since it is a smaller news station. Afterwards we will eat lunch at a nearby restaurant. The motorcoach will depart CW at 8:30 and return around 2:30.

Poetry Reading
May 21

Attracta Hutchinson will be doing another wonderful poetry reading at 7:00 in the Activity Room. Be sure to join her!

Pizza Party
May 22

The Pizza Party is today at 12:00 noon in the Activity Room. Eat all the Pizza Hut pizza you can eat and drink all the soft drink you can for just $2.00. Sign up and pay at the Front Desk by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22.

Flat Rock Playhouse
May 22

The motorcoach will depart CW at 1:15 for Flat Rock Playhouse.

BBQ Lunch
May 23

Today we are having a special lunch featuring pork BBQ sandwiches with either eastern or western sauce, coleslaw, French fries, cookies, water, tea and lemonade. There is no extra charge for residents unless you bring a guest. The charge for a guest is $7.00 or you may use a guest pass. 12:00 - 1:00 in the Main Dining Room. Be sure to sign up at the Front Desk by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19.

Computer Skills
May 23

Transylvania County Scenic Tour
May 24

Join John Zucci for a scenic ride around Transylvania County. The motorcoach will depart CW at 2:00.

This evening Serpentine Arborvitae will be singing jazz classics as well as Broadway show tunes at 7:00 in the Auditorium. Don't miss it!

Asheville Tourists Baseball
May 26

This evening we will travel to Asheville to watch the Tourists battle the Columbus Catfish. Tickets are $3.50. The motorcoach will depart CW at 6:00.

Tuesday Trips
May 27

Today we will travel to Asheville Mall for shopping and lunch. This mall features Belk, Dillards, Sears, JC Penney and more. The motorcoach will depart CW at 10:00 and will return around 2:15.

Travel Group Meeting
May 27

The Travel Group will meet today for Egypt presented by several different residents. (If you would be interested in showing photos of Egypt or had an experience in Egypt there will be a meeting earlier in the month.) Be sure to join these residents at 3:00 in the Activity Room. Just a reminder... this is open to anyone interested in travel.

Spiritual Life Book Group
May 28

The Spiritual Life Book Group will meet at 7:00 in the Activity Room.

Special Birthday Party
May 29

There will be a birthday party for Ginny Allen at 12:00 in the Auditorium. All residents are invited to stop by and share in this special day!

Mountain Music
May 29

Mountain Music is this evening at Silvermont. The motorcoach will depart CW at 7:15 and return around 8:30.

At The Movies
May 30

This afternoon we will travel to Epic Theater, located in Hendersonville, to watch a movie. Admission is $6.25. Watch Table Talk for a list of the movies that will be showing. The motorcoach will depart CW at 12:30.

Brevard Little Theater
May 30

Brevard Little Theater will be performing Coming Back to Jersey at the Morrison Playhouse at the Porter Center. Call 884-2587 for ticket information. The motorcoach will depart CW at 7:30.
